Parts Of Nutanix Objects 2.0 Releases Early

Today, Nutanix announced they are extending their platform with some of the new features slated to be part of their next major version of their object storage platform, Nutanix Objects 2.0. Nutanix has been mentioned in passing in a number of our articles over the years, but I think this may be the first time I’ve written an article about them specifically. It’s nice to finally give them the attention they deserve. Nutanix was founded in 2009 and primarily provides cloud services and software with an emphasis on storage like their Nutanix Objects platform.

Nutanix has been mentioned in passing in a number of our articles over the years, but I think this may be the first time I’ve written an article about them specifically. It’s nice to finally give them the attention they deserve. Nutanix was founded in 2009 and primarily provides cloud services and software with an emphasis on storage like their Nutanix Objects platform.

The most significant new feature is probably the addition of multi-cluster support. Breaking down cluster boundaries enables teams to leverage a single namespace across multiple Nutanix clusters. This potentially represents a big savings since customers can now take advantage of unused storage capacity anywhere in their Nutanix environment to improve storage economics. On a similarly large-scale note, Nutanix also increased the size of individual nodes. Each node can manage up to 240TB of storage. The third and final new feature being rolled out today is support for Write Once Read Many (WORM) locking. Customers can now lock their content to prevent modifications without necessarily enabling versioning.

Nutanix Objects is also now certified by Splunk as SmartStore compliant. Going forward, customers will be able to manage Splunk data growth with Nutanix Objects more easily. Joint customers can now run Splunk workloads on Nutanix software, and leverage Nutanix Objects for built-in object storage to support their Splunk environment.
