QNAP TS-h1886XU-RP R2 Rackmount NAS Now Available

QNAP has announced the launch of their new enterprise-grade rackmount NAS, the TS-h1886XU-RP R2. The new 2U NAS is equipped with twelve 3.5-inch SATA 6Gb/s drive-bays and six 2.5-inch SATA 6Gb/s SSD slots. It is based on the ZFS-based file system QuTS hero, powered by an Intel Xeon D-1622 processor, and designed to offer server-grade performance to help enterprises with high-speed centralized file storage, virtualization, backup, disaster recovery, and cloud storage gateways.

The TS-h1886XU-RP R2 comes with 32GB (expandable to 128GB) dual-channel DDR4 ECC (which is designed to detect and correct single-bit errors) and has dual redundant power supplies to ensure maximum uptime and system reliability. One of the three PCIe slots features a pre-installed dual-port 10GbE SFP+ network expansion card that supports high-performance RDMA protocols (including RoCE and RoCEv2). This helps to reduce CPU load and application latency.

In addition, users can expand the functionality of the NAS by adding a high-speed 25GbE network card, an entry-level graphics card, a QM2 card (for M.2 SSD caching), or a SAS expansion card, the latter of which can connect to multiple storage expansion devices to significantly increase capacity.

As we indicated above, the TS-h1886XU-RP R2 uses the ZFS-based QuTS hero operating system, which

  • is self-healing and WORM (Write Once, Read Many Times) compliant.
  • supports block-level inline data deduplication and compression technology for optimal storage utilization, faster data transfer, and a longer SSD lifespan.
  • features up to 65,535 snapshots and real-time SnapSync to fully record system status and data.

Also available is the QNAP App Center, which offers a wide range of apps to expand NAS potential. This includes natively hosting virtual machines and containers, flexible local/remote/cloud backup, Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 backup, VMware and Hyper-V virtual machine backup, and setting up cloud storage gateways to deploy a hybrid cloud with WireGuard VPN support.
