Samsung Produces 16Gb GDDR6 For Advanced Graphic Systems

Today Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. announced that it is producing the industry’s first 16- gigabit (Gb) Graphics Double Data Rate 6 (GDDR6) memory. This new memory is designed to be used in advanced graphics processing for gaming devices and graphics cards as well as automotive, network, and artificial intelligence systems.


Today Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. announced that it is producing the industry’s first 16- gigabit (Gb) Graphics Double Data Rate 6 (GDDR6) memory. This new memory is designed to be used in advanced graphics processing for gaming devices and graphics cards as well as automotive, network, and artificial intelligence systems.

This new memory is built on the company’s 10nm class process technology and doubles the previous 20nm GDDR5 memory, up from 8Gb to 16Gb. Samsung states that the new memory can deliver 18Gbps pin speed with data transfers of 72Gbps. From a power consumption standpoint, the new memory operates at 1.35V. The company states that the new GDDR6 memory will be used in developing fields such as 8K Ultra HD video processing, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence.

Availability

Samsung’s 16Gb GDDR6 is in mass production now.
