Seagate Launches New Mobile Wireless Storage For iOS

Today Seagate launched their new GoFlex Satellite Mobile Wireless Storage device, which is capable of wirelessly streaming content to mobile devices connected through Wi-Fi. With an internal battery, the 500GB drive can steam content to three devices for up to 5 hours on a single charge, meaning the entire family can enjoy separate movies on a coast to coast flight. With a starting price of $199, this wireless storage device comes at a slight premium over USB portable hard drives, but is very cost effective compared to buying a higher capacity Apple iPhone or iPad.

The GoFlex Satellite Mobile Wireless Storage system supports both 802.11b/g/n for streaming to Apple iOS devices like the iPhone and iPad, as well as USB 3.0 for a faster wired connection. The listed wireless range is 30-feet, meaning it will cast a full Wi-Fi bubble over a car or a family seating arrangement on a flight. The Seagate drive also supports the flexible GoFlex connection system, allowing users to swap the USB 3.0 interface with eSATA or FireWire modules.

Included with the mobile storage system are the standard data connection cables, as well as a three methods to charge the drive on the go. Seagate includes a USB charging cable, a AC power adapter, and car charger to keep the drive topped off no matter where you go, without having to buy additional accessories.
