Seagate has announced the launch of the new SkyHawk 20TB HDD, a high-capacity drive solution for AI-enabled video imaging and analytics systems. The new drive is specifically designed for network video recorders (NVRs) enabled with AI for edge security applications.

The Seagate SkyHawk AI 20TB HDD can intelligently adapt to the scale of a specific AI environment while supporting up to 64 HD video streams and 32 AI streams. This allows the new enterprise-grade drive to satisfy the ever-increasing demands of advanced VIA systems, as it can both analyze and record video footage while simultaneously supporting GPU analytics.

The SkyHawk AI features ImagePerfect AI firmware, meaning that it won’t suffer from dropped frames during heavier workloads. The new Seagate drive also focuses on high reliability, as it is specced with an MTBF (mean time between failures) rating of two million hours and a 550TB/year workload rate. This equates to roughly more than three times the workload of standard VIA drives.

The SkyHawk AI features SkyHawk Health Management, which actively protects user VIA storage by monitoring environmental and usage conditions. It then recommends various preventative actions if needed. Moreover, it comes with three years of Seagate’s comprehensive Rescue Data Recovery Services, which allows users to recover data from unforeseen events like power outages and human error.

Seagate SkyHawk 20TB HDD Pricing and Availability

SkyHawk AI 20TB is expected to mass ship this month and will be priced at $530.
