SMART is line to become first to market for a 1.8” SAS SSD, with a newly-announced addition to the Optimus SSD line. The Optimus 1.8" SAS SSD is designed for blade servers, caching, and other high-density computing environments, using MLC NAND flash in capacities of 200GB and 400GB with a rated lifetime of 10 drive writes per day for five years.

Until now, the Optimus SAS line has consisted exclusively of 2.5” drives. With the addition of Optimus 1.8" SAS SSD, SMART can offer a single enterprise SSD platform that spans multiple applications and form factors. According to SMART, the Optimus 1.8" SAS SSD delivers random read/write performance of 100K/45K IOPS and sustained read/write speeds of 500/500MB/s, measured according to the SNIA Solid State Storage Enterprise Test Specification.

The Optimus 1.8" SAS SSD leverages SMART’s Guardian Technology Platform, including FlashGuard Aggregated Flash Management and Advanced Signal Processing technologies for MLC endurance. DataGuard and EverGuard technologies ensure data integrity and reliability for Tier-1 applications. The Optimus 1.8" SAS SSD also features support for dual-port and T10 DIF operation and TCG encryption.

Availability

The SMART Optimus 1.8" SAS SSD will begin sampling in the second quarter of 2013.
