Data centers are continuing to grow in size and number. At the same time much of the world is pushing for “green” technology. Supermicro is killing two birds with one stone through its new clean energy facility. Not only will the new facility reduce pollution, it will leverage clean fuel-cell based energy (that it creates) to lower its carbon footprint. It will also be leveraging robotics to increase automation increasing its rack capacity by 480 racks per month. The company states that through the new facility it is able to burn in 60 racks simultaneously.

For the power, as stated, the facility generates its own electricity on site, which the company claims will save $8 million over the next 10 years. Supermicro uses a 1-megawatt Bloom Energy Server for most of its energy use. This energy server can maintain operating during grid outages adding a layer of availability.
