Today Micron Technologies announced the new 5200 series of SATA SSDs aimed at enterprise use. The 5200 Series is the first enterprise SSDs leveraging Micron’s 64-layer 3D NAND technology. The drive will be released in two flavors: ECO for scalability and PRO for write-intensive workloads.
Micron states that the 5200 Series will be the first enterprise SATA SSD utilizing 64-Layer 3D NAND. This will make the new series a cost-effective option for replacing legacy SATA SSDs or even more performance and density from replacing 2.5” HDDs. The series can further help lower TCO through consolidation as they drives run up to 7.68TB in capacity.
Key features include:
The new drives are ideal for use cases such as virtualization and VDI, cloud storage, OLTP, Bi/DSS, and Media Streaming. The drive is offered in a read-intensive version, the 5200 ECO, and a write-intensive version, the 5200 PRO, to best match up with the needed use case.
