Synology has announced the release of the DiskStation DS416j, a budget-friendly 4-bay NAS purpose-built for the home and small office to manage personal data and multimedia. Synology indicates that their new NAS is also ideal for streaming content on devices like TVs, computer monitors, projectors, tablets, and cell phone screens.

Under the hood lies a dual-core CPU, which allows the DS416j to be quoted at 112MB/s read and 101MB/s write when configured under a RAID5 configuration in a Windows environment. This is a noticeable 37% increase in writing speeds over its predecessor. In addition, its built-in floating-point unit also improves the overall capability of the main CPU. The DS416j is also equipped with a USB 3.0 port so that users can connect to external hard drives and other devices for high speed transfer rates.

Appearance-wise, the front LEDs on the new NAS allows users to adjust and schedule the brightness and intensity. Synology also asserts that their DS416j is energy efficient, as it uses only 21.6 watts in full operation and as low as 12.75 watts in HDD hibernation.

The DS416j is compatible with the latest version of DiskStation Manager (DSM), Synology’s powerhouse and intuitive operating system for their network attached storage devices.
