Synology DS3612xs and RS3412RPxs Announced, Updates to the XS Series

Synology has announced the latest products in its high-performance XS series, the DS3612xs and RS3412RPxs. Both models boast 100,000 IOPS, have transfer rates over 1,000 MB/s when equipped with optional Emulex or Intel 10GbE interface cards, and can easily scale to over 100TB in storage. The XS series is also compatible with VMware vSphere 5 and offers support for Citrix XenServer and Microsoft Hyper-V.


Synology has announced the latest products in its high-performance XS series, the DS3612xs and RS3412RPxs. Both models boast 100,000 IOPS, have transfer rates over 1,000 MB/s when equipped with optional Emulex or Intel 10GbE interface cards, and can easily scale to over 100TB in storage. The XS series is also compatible with VMware vSphere 5 and offers support for Citrix XenServer and Microsoft Hyper-V.

The DS3612xs and RS3412RPxs are built with a new internal design to improve reliability by taking advantage of passive cooling technology on the CPU, eliminating a single point of failure. Both models have redundant exhaust fans, which are tuned to automatically adjust their speed in the case that one should fail. The DS3612xs and RS3412RPxs are equipped with standard file sharing capabilities and make excellent additions to virtual environments.

The DiskStation Manager operating system offers administrators a vast array of tools to save them time and money including Multiple LUNs and/or volumes on RAID and ADS support for up to 100,000 users and groups. The RS3412RPxs is a 10-bay 2U rack mount NAS that supports up to two RX1211RP expansion modules for up to 34 drives and is also equipped with redundant PSUs to help maximize uptime. The DS3612xs is a 12-bay desktop model with two DX1211 expansion modules for up to 36 drives.

Both the DS3612xs and RS3412RPxs are set to launch at under $5,000 USD.
