Synology has announced the RackStation RS3614xs, the latest model in its XS series. An extra 24 bays can be added with two RX1214(RP) expansion chassis for a total of 36-bays and up to 216TB of raw storage using 6TB drives. The RackStation RS3614xs is quoted to deliver sequential performance at more than 500MB/s and over 280,000IOPS.

The RS3614xs is designed with a mixture of passive and active cooling as well as redundant replaceable fans that speed up in case a failure occurs. In addition to the redundant power variant, the RS3614(RP)xs model features dual hot-swappable power supplies to endure power-circuit or power supply failures.

The RS3614xs is equipped with four gigabit NICs, which comprise the default network configuration for LAG, Load Balancing, and Failover. In addition, throughput can be enhanced with two PCIe Gen3 x8 expansion slots, giving users the ability to add dual 10Gb Ethernet cards to support a total of 4x10GbE. To help protect against downtime with active/passive server clustering, the DSM also offers high availability configurations.

The RS3614xs is certified for VMware vShpere 5, VAAI, Citrix XenServer, and Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2, which enables functions that offload specific storage operations from the primary server.

Pricing and Availability

The RS3614xs ($2,999.99) and the RS3614(RP)xs ($3,999.99) will be available in the United States within the next few of weeks. Synology is also offering a new limited 5-year warranty to all current XS and XS+ series RackStations.
