Toshiba has announced a new high-capacity 6TB addition to their MC04 Series of enterprise HDDs, which was launched back in May of last year. The MC04 6TB model is designed for bulk storage systems and servers that support cloud-based applications and scale-out workloads. Using a 3.5-inch form factor, the MC04 Series offers 7,200 RPM to support service levels for high performance cloud-based applications and storage.

Toshiba’s highest capacity enterprise cloud HDD provides a 1TB increase over the previous generation’s 5TB capacity, which allows for more efficient high-density, high-growth storage for multi-petabyte rack deployments. In addition, the 6TB MC04 drive improves ROI for scale-out storage solutions, as it boasts a 20 percent increase in power efficiency (or TB/W) compared to older generations. As a result, Toshiba indicates that it enables a more cost-effective delivery of cloud storage services.

The MC04 line of HDDS are also available in 2TB, 3TB, 4TB, and 5TB capacities and support an 180TB transferred per year workload rating, which optimizes it for lower tier workloads in high capacity, scale-out cloud-based storage and server use cases. The MC04 Series also come equipped with SATA 6Gb/s interface speeds as well as Advanced Format sector technology, enabling both higher aerial density and compatibility with legacy applications and operating environments.

Availability

The 6TB MC04 Series samples will be available sometime in August, 2015.
