With this announcement, Unitrends Free now gives customers the ability to install into virtual machines running on VMware’s free vSphere hypervisor and protect physical Windows systems through guest operating system agents. Unitrends is currently in version 8.1 and is the same software used by Unitrends Enterprise Backup.

Unitrends Free was the first free backup solution designed for IT professionals looking for inexpensive protection for home labs, early-stage virtualization projects, and small environments. In addition, it gives hypervisor-level protection for the paid versions of both VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V. Last month, the company also made available Unitrends Free for Google Cloud Platform, which is comprised of a jointly developed version of the solution that closely integrates with Google Cloud Storage.

Unitrends Free offers users a simple and interactive user experience by removing the inherent complexity of backup and recovery solutions all the while maintaining robust functionality and performance. Unitrends Free is the industry’s only free product that offers protection for an unlimited number of VMs, instant recovery, and incremental forever backups. In addition, IT professionals have direct access to the Unitrends Customer Community from the software’s main dashboard. This allows users to interact directly with both their peers and Unitrends support directly inside the tool.
