Veeam Releases Version Three of Backup for Microsoft Office

Veeam announced they were releasing Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 v3.  In addition to the paid version, Veeam provides a free version, Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 Community Edition, with functionality identical to that of the paid version but limited to 10 users and 1 TB of protected SharePoint data.  Veeam is a major provider of backup solutions.

The rapid market adoption and growth of Microsoft Office 365 has also created an opportunity for service providers to offer backup solutions to the more than 140 million Office 365 users in a $2.5 billion market.Veeam is already providing backup services to 4.1 million of these users and is looking to add more with the latest updates in version three.

One of the significant upgrades Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 v3 is a huge reduction in backup times. Veeam is claiming that backup for SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business has been sped up by as much as thirty times compared to previous versions. The primary driver for this huge speedup was integrating with the native Change API for Microsoft Office 365.  Now that the cost of backing up Microsoft Office has dropped, customers may want to secure additional users.  Veeam has you covered there too. Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 v3 adds data protection reports allow you to identify unprotected Office 365 user mailboxes as well as manage license and storage usage. Three reports are available via the GUI (as well as PowerShell and RESTful API). Security conscious users will be pleased to hear that v3 also adds support for multi-factor authentication.
