VMware’s vSAN has had a huge impact on hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) and its adoption rates. As the benefits of the product help sell it, more and more users are taking the plunge. However, any change in technology hits bumps along the way. Unplanned downtime is a killer. Getting things back to working order as fast as possible is no longer enough; downtime has to be stopped before it starts. And that is what the new combined technology aims to do.

Introduced in 2017, VMware Skyline is a proactive support technology that automatically and securely collects, aggregates and analyzes customer-specific product usage data to proactively identify potential issues and improve time-to-resolution. The new Skyline Health for vSAN takes the findings based on Skyline data from thousands of vSAN deployments but doesn’t rely on the Skyline Collector. In other words, the data isn’t sent to VMware but the benefits are still there. Customers should be connected to the Customer Experience Improvement Program (CEIP), but can still see benefits even offline.

Availability

VMware Skyline Health for vSAN is expected to be available with vSphere 6.7P01 (or vSAN 6.7 U3a) and above.
