The public cloud offers great cost benefits but certain customers don't like the idea of their data in public clouds or they have a very large data set. This new solution would enable customers to deploy on-premises and remote cloud-scale file storage as well as hybrid cloud-bursting models. The cloud-bursting works by using intelligent file system caching to take only active data to cloud-based compute platforms, while using the performance of the local compute and storage. This new combined solution gives customers flexibility while allowing them to integrate with their existing systems using NFS, SMB, and S3-compliant access protocols.

WDC and Avere can provide an object storage solution delivering cloud-scale economics to targeted rich metadata applications to their customers in media and entertainment, finance, life sciences, and high-performance computing (HPC) markets.
