Today Western Digital Corporation (WDC) introduced what it is calling the fastest dual-port SAS SSD in the market, the new Ultrastar DC SS530. The new SAS drive expands capacity up to 15.36TB while retaining the 2.5-inch, 15mm form factor. The increase in performance and capacity will give customers better TCO in their data centers with the potential to consolidate servers and open up rack space.
Western Digital partnered with Intel to develop the Ultrastar DC SS530. According to the companies, the SAS SSD was built on a trusted third-generation platform that has been previously qualified at most major OEMs worldwide. The new drive runs in capacities ranging from 400GB to 15.36TB. From a performance perspective, Western Digital is quoting numbers of 440K IOPS random read and 320K IOPS random write. The new drive is aimed at use cases that need faster data analytics, higher productivity, and operational efficiency.
