Zerto Announces Virtual Replication 5.0

Today at VMworld 2016, Zerto introduced its enterprise-class disaster recovery to Microsoft Azure, Zerto Virtual Replication 5.0. Zerto states this new technology can help companies that wish to use Microsoft Azure cloud computing platform for BC/DR. Version 5.0 also includes the first hypervisor-based “one-to-many” replication for protection of multiple workloads across different data center sites, 30-day journaling, and a new mobile app.

Expanding on its existing Cloud Continuity Platform, version 5.0 adds Microsoft Azure as a public cloud target. The latest version of Zerto Virtual Replication provides consistency groups, block-level replication, and point in time recovery journaling from both VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V environments to Azure. Zerto claims that version 5.0 is easy to deploy, with pre-installed Azure drivers in all Windows OS post-Microsoft Vista, as well as a list of supported Linux OS.

5.0’s one-to-many feature can replicate VMs to multiple supported target platforms both local and remote, including VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, AWS, Azure, and Zerto Cloud Service Provider infrastructures. Users can also put a VM into multiple virtual protection groups (VPGs) that not only allows multiple replication but also the ability to configure different service level agreements (SLAs) per VPG. With this feature, Zerto states that it can improve migration protection (even during migrations to new DR sites), longer cloud-based retention, and individual VM recovery.

Zerto has taken the journaling capabilities from the previous 14 days to 30 days for businesses that need longer retention of data. Zerto states that this new capability expands recovery of any file system object, including but not limited to SQL, Oracle, Exchange and user data. This new feature can be coupled with the above mentioned one-to-many feature and journaling compression giving each VM a different Journal history that can be configured on a per-VPG basis to improve SLAs. Zerto claims this coupling of capabilities will make local storage more efficient or saves costs for local cloud storage.

The new mobile app for Zerto Virtual Replication 5.0 will help admins stay connected regardless of where they are. The app provides a single pane view into the status of all Zerto Virtual Managers (ZVMs), VPGs, alerts, and running tasks on any Android or iOS mobile device.

Availability

The Zerto Virtual Replication 5.0 is expected to be generally available in the fourth quarter of this year. Zerto is calling for beta users at VMworld.
