Today Arcserve, LLC announced that it had acquired Zetta, a leader in cloud-first disaster recovery (DR) solutions and data center IP. This marks the second major acquisition for Arcserve in recent history, the other being the acquisition of the email archiving technology, FastArchiver. With this latest acquisition (whose terms were not disclosed), Arcserve is unveiling its disaster avoidance roadmap to the first, affordable near-zero data loss disaster recovery across cloud, virtual and physical infrastructures.
Arcserve already offers a cloud service through its Unified Data Protection (UDP). In a hybrid backup model users can automatically replicate backup images from an on-premise recovery point server (RPS) to a corresponding RPS in the cloud (disk-to-disk-to-cloud). With the acquisition of Zetta, Arcserve can combine the technologies into one solution enabling customers to implement on premises, hybrid cloud, and direct to cloud from a single pane of glass.
Adding Zetta’s capabilities to Arcserve UDP is ideal for the following:
Arcserve also announced its disaster avoidance platform today. This new platform goes past recovering data from a disaster and instead focuses on avoiding the disaster altogether. Arcserve also intends to deliver a comprehensive and affordable near-zero data loss recovery point objective (RPO) solution with near-instant recovery time objective (RTO). The solution is being built out through a combination of Arcserve’s replication and high availability engine with its new cloud-first DRaaS offerings and data center IP. The company states the new solution will be priced affordably for midsize and decentralized enterprise organizations.
Availability
Arcserve’s new direct-to-cloud solution, Arcserve UDP Cloud Direct, is expected to be available through its North American partner network this summer. Current Zetta customers will continue to be fully supported.
