Dell Announces Solutions for Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp

Dell is announcing several new products for Citrix XenDesktop 7 and XenApp that lower the cost of integrated storage, increase graphics capabilities and provide dual and quad-core processing to thin client desktops. By unifying applications, desktops and hosted VDI environments with a common management platform, Citrix XenDesktop 7 supports virtualized workloads based on Windows 8/Windows Server 2012 as well as HDX 3D enabling virtualized graphics for OpenGL applications. The cost-savings and the increased hardware capabilities come from several new products including: DVS Enterprise, Wyse Xenith Pro 2, D90Q7 and Z90Q7.

The cost-savings and the increased hardware capabilities come from several new products including: DVS Enterprise, Wyse Xenith Pro 2, D90Q7 and Z90Q7.

In order to lower storage costs for SMBs, Dell has announced Dell Desktop Virtualization Solutions (DVS) Enterprise Integrated Storage. Companies that have been reluctant to implement a virtualized environment due to cost can now progress to a virtualized environment without fearing large startup costs. DVS Enterprise Integrated Storage is designed to simplify the planning, ordering, supporting and expansion of the virtualized environment and includes the following:

  • Citrix XenDesktop 7: This powerful combination provides an unmatched range of application support in a VDI environment with a best-in-class management experience.
  • Dell PowerEdge R720 rack server with local tier 1 storage: using a rack server instead of a blade server, Dell enables customers to provision compute and management functions on a single server.
  • Entry Level Configuration: DVS Enterprise Integrated Storage solution starts with infrastructure that supports as few as 90 users and can be scaled to support thousands of users.

Dell has also announced additional end-to-end solutions that support Citrix XenDesktop 7 and make it easier and less costly to deploy virtual desktops with Citrix. DVS Enterprise Active System 800 is built on Dell’s converged infrastructure platform combining servers, storage, networking, endpoint devices and infrastructure management software into a pre-integrated system. This vastly simplifies the deployment process of a virtualized environment. Active System Manager is a key component that extends the management capabilities beyond the physical infrastructure to the virtualized environment and workloads. Additionally, Dell has announced DVS Enterprise with NVIDIA GRID for virtualized graphics. This end-to-end solution includes support for XenDesktop and unified communications and incorporates NVIDIA GRID for support for virtualized high-end graphics. GRID enables GPU virtualization and the delivery of high performance 3D graphics and visualization workloads running in virtual desktop and virtual application environments.

New dual-core and quad-core based client devices for virtual desktops were also announced. Dell Wyse Xenith Pro 2 is specifically built for Citrix, and Dell’s first dual-core zero client Xenith Pro 2 is a high performing endpoint for Citrix desktop virtualization environments combined with secure firmware that is ideal for unified communications and HD multimedia creation and consumption. It offers wireless speeds up to 300 Mb/s (802.11 a/b/g/n), support for 1080p video resolution with dual display capability, and easy management with Dell’s Wyse Device Manager Software. The Dell Wyse D90Q7 and Z90Q7 quad-core thin clients are based on Windows and are embedded with superior compute performance, energy efficiency and HD for a broad range of environments. They provide flexible networking, storage and I/O options, infrastructure security (via centralized hosting of applications) and scalable easy management via Dell Wyse Device Manager Software.

Availability

Dell DVS Solutions (including the Active System 800) are available now and the Dell Wyse thin client devices Xenith Pro 2, D90Q7 and Z90Q7 will be available in July.
