EMC is announcing updates to its EMC Data Domain deduplication storage systems and EMC SourceOne archiving software. Data Domain software helps to keep data recoverable and accessible within a budget. The new version of the EMC Data Domain software includes a load of updates including improved performance, wider support, and Oracle optimized deduplication. With these updates, EMC is also announcing its Data Domain systems are receiving updates to make them faster and increase their support. Meanwhile, EMC SourceOne 7’s updates revolve around file, email, and Sharepoint archiving features.

EMC Data Domain has an array of enhanced features for improved usability. It now has deduplication optimized for Oracle so that users can integrate Data Domain into multiplexed Oracle RMAN deployments in order to consolidate backups. Data Domain Boost has also been enhanced to work more efficiently over Fibre Channel and Symantec NetBackup. With Boost support now included for Dell NetVault Backup, users get 50% faster and more efficient backup and disaster recovery.

Data Domain’s backup application ecosystems have become the first and only inline deduplication solution designed specifically to dedupe and archive on a single system. With this feature, Data Domain systems have three times faster ingest performance. This accelerates archive transfers from existing archive platforms to Data Domain systems. The Data Domain systems now are integrated with EMC Documentum and IBM InfoSphere Optim, and they can be deployed with over 16 archiving apps.

EMC’s archiving software SourceOne 7 has also received important updates that effect its file, email, and SharePoint archiving. The updates include improved performance, new file system archiving, and enhanced management. SourceOne 7 has a new indexing engine to make it even faster, and it now supports Office 2010 as well as over 40 additional file types. File system archiving includes in-place indexing and tiered storage options. On top of that, the software enables users to view detailed audits and reports for all content types stored in the archive. Topping off this set of updates, EMC SourceOne Discovery Manager shares similar enhancements. It is now faster, includes a new GUI, expanded content support and has more advanced auditing and reporting functions.
