WD Announces SmartWare Pro Software

WD unveiled their new SmartWare Pro software that enables users to easily back up files to any USB external hard drive or the cloud using their personal Dropbox. The software also provides users with the ability to restore or retrieve backed-up data. SmartWare Pro is compatible with popular WD products such as My Passport and Elements portable hard drives, NAS devices such as My Book Live, or other external storage devices. With the software installed, the setup is quick and easy, and from there the software presents external drives and Dropbox accounts in a unified control center for management.

The WD SmartWare Pro software can be setup in two different settings. The first one is “continuous backup” which accomplishes what it is named for. That mode instantly backs up any file changes or additions users make. The other mode is “scheduled backup” which enables users to program the frequency at which they want to back up their files and folders. Using the pre-programmed schedule, backups will be written to external drives or Dropbox accounts hourly, daily or monthly. The software also enables users to backup Dropbox stored files to an external drive.

WD SmartWare Pro simplifies the process of retrieving and restoring files. Users can access the “retrieve interface” to save up to 25 versions of a single file. This same interface enables users to restore all backed up files, or users can manually choose which files or folders they need to have restored. The software makes it easy to save many versions of files so that users can always select the one they want to access.

Pricing and Availability

WD SmartWare Pro is currently available as a free 30-day trial. After the 30 days, users can purchase the software at a promotional price of $19.95 for up to three computers or ten computers at $39.95.
