GIGABYTE Adds New Single-Socket GPU & Storage Servers To AMD EPYC Line

GIGABYTE has added three new single-socket GPU and storage servers their AMD EPYC line. The new 2U G291-Z20 and G221-Z30 GPU servers and the 4U S451-Z30 storage server leverage the EPYC’s compute and I/O resources of 32 cores, 64 threads, more than 2TB of memory capacity and 128 PCIe lanes per socket. The G291-Z20 and the G221-Z30 are fully compatible with AMD’s new Radeon Instinct MI25 GPU, which is quoted to boast upwards of an impressive 24.6 TFLOPS of FP16 and 12.3 TFLOPS of FP32 peak performance. The MI25 also features large BAR (Base Address Register) support for multi-GPU peer to peer communication.

The G291-Z20 features up to 8 x dual slot GPGPU cards in a 2U form factor chassis. GIGABYTE indicates that its high GPU density allows the G291-Z20 thrive in HPC applications, including real time analytics, programs in scientific simulation and modeling, engineering, visualization and rendering, and data mining.

Additional features include:

  • Dual onboard M.2 ports for high speed flash storage devices,
  • 8 x 2.5" hot-swappable HDD/SSD bays,
  • Dual SFP+ 10Gb/s networking ports (upgradable to 25Gb/s)
  • 2 x PCIe x16 half-length low-profile slots in the rear to add additional expansion options such as high-speed networking or RAID storage cards.

The G221-Z30 supports 2 x dual slot GPGPU cards; one of the slots (1 x PCIe x16 slots FHFL + 1 x PCIe x 8 FHHL) expansion ports can be used for a high-speed networking card instead. The G221-Z30 also combines GPU support with some pretty solid storage capabilities. This makes the server a multi-purpose, flexible and cost-efficient HPC solution for research and development applications.

Additional features include:

  • 16 x 2.5" SATA/SAS hot-swappable HDD/SSD bays
  • An onboard M.2 port for a high speed flash storage device
  • Dual SFP+ 10Gb/s networking ports

The S451-Z30 features a capacity of 36 x 3.5” drives (24 in the front and 12 in the rear) for a generous potential of 500TB in storage. GIGABYTE believes this makes the server a perfect scale-out, "add as you go system" for a software defined storage cluster. Moreover, with its 2 x 2 x 2.5” hot-swappable HDD / SSD bays in the rear for OS boot disks, organizations can use the S451-Z30 as a stand-alone storage device as well.

GIGABYTE has decided not to include an SAS expansion card in the standard build so customers can use their own HW or SW RAID card. This will allow further customization of the S451-Z30 based on customers’ individual needs.

Additional features include:

  • An onboard M.2 port for a high-speed flash storage drive
  • Dual 10Gb/s SFP+ LAN ports for high speed networking connectivity
  • An additional 3 x PCIe Gen3 x16 slots and 3 x PCIe Gen3 x8 slots for more expansion options
