G-Technology by Hitachi has introduced several new audio/video storage products for 2011, including a portable rugged drive and a high-capacity 3TB drive.

The first product is the rugged G-DRIVE duro portable drive. This external hard drive has a shock-resistant exterior. It is pre-formatted for Macs and features both FireWire 800 and USB 2.0 connections. It is bus-powered and Apple Time Machine-ready. The G-DRIVE duro portable drive is available in 500GB and 750GB capacities for $149.99 and $179.99, respectively; they will be available in June.

G-Technology also announced new high-capacity, high-performance solutions featuring 3TB 7200RPM Hitachi Deskstar hard drives. The announced products include the following:

  • 3TB G-DRIVE ($449.99)
  • 3TB RAID 1 G-SAFE ($699.99)
  • 6TB RAID 0 G-RAID ($749.99)
  • 12TB G-SPEED Q ($2,299.99)
  • G-SPEED es ($2,499.99)
  • G-SPEED es Pro ($3,299.99)

The last three devices are four-bay solutions. G-Technology is planning to make 3TB drives available in its 2U 12-bay and 3U 16-bay rack mount solutions – the G-SPEED eS Pro XL and G-SPEED FC XL – in Q2 2011, enabling 36TB and 48GB of total storage capacity, respectively.

G-Technology has also announced that it will be supporting the new Thunderbolt connection, which is twice as fast as the new USB 3.0 specification and 12 times faster than FireWire 800.
