HP Anyware for Digital Workspaces Combines Teradici and Remote Boost Tech

Last July when HP announced that they would acquire Teradici, we were curious to see what would come of this paring. PCoIP, which is Teradici’s remote display protocol, has been used by many companies and has more than 15 million users worldwide. It is used by VMware Horizon and AWS workspaces. Although PCoIP is Teradici’s best-known product they also have CAS, which acts as a connection broker between remote desktops and remote workers.

HP ZCentral Remote Boost originally started out as HP Remote Workstations Software, which became HP Remote Graphics Software (RGS) and today’s known as ZCentral Remote Boost which, along with HP ZCentral Connect which acts as a connection broker between remote desktops and remote workers.

HP Anyware for Digital Workspaces

Today, HP announced the HP Anyware for Digital Workspaces, which is a merger of these two technologies. HP is pulling the best parts from their ZCentral and Teradici product lines into a single unifying product. This product allows users to connect to Windows, macOS and Linux desktops regardless of if they are hosted in the cloud, on-premises, or on the edge. They can be physical or virtual machines. These desktops can be accessed from PC, Mac, laptop, tablet, thin and zero clients regardless of where the workforce is located.

HP Anyware will use PCoIP (which is secured by AES 256 encryption and Multifactor Authentication) as the remote display protocol. From ZCentral HP pulled in features like remote collaboration.

Ziad Lammam, Global Head of Teradici Product Management, HP said “IT teams can future-proof their infrastructure today with new capabilities. such as high-performance workforce collaboration and access to macOS environments from the hybrid cloud, with more key features coming soon, including enhanced security with zero trust architectures.” He further went on to state “HP Anyware gives CIOs the flexibility to extend secure access to digital workspaces, anywhere their workforce wants to be, with a superb user experience that feels just like they’re in the office.”

Other features of the product are:

• PCoIP traffic secured by AES 256 encryption​ and Multifactor Authentication
• Screensharing allows others to join the same session and work together in real-time and USB webcam support for video conference applications, including Microsoft Teams and Zoom
• 4K/UHD throughput with multiple monitor support ensures a color-accurate, build-to-lossless, and distortion-free user- experience
• A/V Sync ensures smooth video playback with synchronized audio
• Adaptive encoders automatically deliver the best possible user experience under changing network conditions
• Broad peripheral support with low-latency performance, including Wacom pen displays and tablets, 3D mice, game console controllers, webcams, and smart card readers

In the past, we did a hands-on review of HP ZCentral Remote Boost and found our end-user experience when using it exceptional. We followed up the review with a video with HP on it.

We also did a video with Mirela Cunjalo from Teradici where we discussed how the pandemic forced workers to work remotely and how it reshaped how we do business, on-premise vs public cloud virtual desktops, the issues people had using home Wi-Fi networks, and even the Emmy award Teradici received for their PCoIP technology.
