HP ZBook Studio, Create, & ENVY 15 Announced

Today, HP announced the newest additions to their high-end mobile workstations and their HP Create Ecosystem, the ZBook Studio, ZBook Create, and the more modest ENVY 15. Offering impressive specs, HP has Apple’s latest 16-inch MacBook Pro squarely in their sights, marketing these laptops primarily as MacBook Pro alternatives for creative professionals. They’re going as far as replicating the MacBook’s keyboard layout to make the transition from Mac OS X to Windows easier with their Z Command Keyboard.

Offering two flavors of the ZBook, the Create model offers up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Super, while the Studio model offers up to an NVIDIA Quadro RTX 5000 with NVIDIA’s Studio drivers as default. Both models can be configured with next-gen Intel Core i9 or Intel Xeon processors. HP claims both models will have up to 17.5 hours of battery life. They also offer a comfortable array of IO, including two Thunderbolt 3 ports and SD card reader.

Both models will share the same screen options:

  • UHD DreamColor HDR-400, Pantone-validated w/ 100% sRGB, AdobeRGB, and DCI-P3 coverage
  • UHD OLED HDR-500 certified screen
  • HP Sure View Reflect 1000 nit display with a built in privacy filter

The ZBook Studio and ZBook Create are both expected to be available in August of this year. No information on pricing at this time, but expect fully specced out machines to not be cheap.

Update: I reached out to HP for additional specs and they informed me at launch they’ll be supporting up to a single 2TB NVMe Gen 3 SSD as primary storage, and up to 32GB of RAM.

Here’s HP’s comparison for the ZBooks to the MacBook Pro 16-inch:

The HP ENVY 15 doesn’t have quite as impressive specs, but even for a modest workstation, it still comes well equipped with up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q and up to a 10th gen Intel Core i9 H-series processor. The ENVY 15 even offers two 1TB NVMe SSDs in RAID0 as a boot device. It is expected to be available this June with a starting price of $1,349.99. It rounds out HP’s ENVY portfolio, joining the ranks of their new 13-inch model, 17-inch model, and two convertible models, the x360 13 and 15, both offered with 4000-series AMD Ryzen Mobile processors. The other models are expected in early May.
