Today at VMworld 2015, Huawei Technologies announced that its OceanStor converged storage portfolio has been certified for VMware vSphere 6.0 virtual platform and Virtual Volumes (vVols). This certification includes its 18000 series, V3 series, Dorado series and VIS series.

Huawei’s OceanStor converged storage portfolio passed the required vSphere 6.0 certifications. This certification enables VMware vSphere Storage APIs for Array Integration (VAAI) for Block, VAAI for Network Attached Storage (VAAI NAS), Pluggable Storage Architecture (PSA), and Site Recovery Manager (SRM) to be ran on OceanStor. OceanStor is now also certified for vVols giving users more control and flexibility on how storage is consumed down to the VM level.

Benefits of OceanStor with vSphere 6.0 include:

  • Optimized path management policy – Huawei’s OceanStor UltraPath software has been officially certified by VMware and can provide better input/output (I/O) performance and reliability in managing Huawei storage array paths than the native multipath I/O (MPIO) software.
  • More flexible networking – Huawei’s OceanStor V3 series converge Storage Area Network (SAN) and NAS protocols, meeting customers' diversified requirements in building Fibre Channel (FC), Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI), and Network File System (NFS) networks.
  • Higher return on investment – OceanStor arrays can seamlessly support vSphere 6.0 and all its features without complicated upgrades. They can also employ vSphere vMotion to non-disruptively migrate data across data centers that span an ultra-long distance and reduce the migration network round-trip time (RTT) to 100ms.

Availability

Huawei OceanStor converged storage portfolio is currently available and its vVol-ready solutions are expected to be available in the fourth quarter of 2015. Huawei will be showcasing its OceanStor certified for vShpere and vVols at booth #535 at VMworld.
