Just one day after FalconStor announcing OpenStack Cinder Integration for FreeStore, as well as Tintri expanding its support for the open-source Cloud computing software platform, Intel and Rackspace have unveiled the opening of the OpenStack Innovation Center during this week’s OpenStack Summit in Tokyo. This includes the world's largest OpenStack developer cloud consisting of two 1,000-node clusters, giving developers the ability to test OpenStack implementations at-scale.
The collaboration between Intel and Rackspace includes joint engineering endeavours, which entails Intel employees working with the cloud computing company in San Antonio to set the OpenStack code base and accelerate upstream contributions. So far, the teams have closed 200 bugs during the collaboration, which has been ongoing for just six weeks. They have also created a 12-month joint engineering roadmap and are working with the University of Texas San Antonio on OpenStack curriculum and internships to increase potential new developer talent.
Intel has also indicated that it is driving OpenStack maturity for enterprise and telco with greater velocity. As such, they have announced an expanded collaboration on joint upstream efforts with the HP Helion team in order to solve enterprise readiness issues. As for the telco space, Intel is focusing on developing carrier-grade OpenStack, as they recently released the Intel Network Builders Fast Track program to provide end-end solutions for network-function virtualization (NFV) and software-defined networking (SDN). To this end, Intel has expanded its partnership with Red Hat to help with these efforts to deliver standards-based solutions to the telco industry. With this collaboration, the companies will work drive to upstream features that will reinforce OpenStack as both a stable and credible platform.
