It has been awhile since we’ve seen a launch of an 8TB SSD, about two years. Everyone is caught up in the NVMe interface and the performance promises that come with it, and the fact that there are several high capacity versions of NVMe drives out there. However, SATA is still widely used in the data center and having more drop in capacity bumps is a boon to those that aren’t looking to change their storage in the immediate future.

The Kingston DC500R & DC450R join the DC500M data center SATA drives. This gives users even more options in their storage. The DC1000M joins the DC1000B, also offering more users for their storage needs in the NVMe arena.

Kingston’s 7.68TB data center SSDs include:

  • DC500R:
    • VMware Ready SSD engineered for read-intensive applications such as webservers, virtual desktop infrastructure, operational databases and real-time analytics.
    • I/O speeds and response times (latency) data centers can deploy with confidence, ensuring high levels of performance in the working application and downstream at the user interface.
  • DC450R:
    • Specific, focused feature set for read-intensive applications and optimized for
    • data centers looking to not overspend on more expensive write-intensive SSDs.
    • Designed for content-delivery networks, edge computing applications and a wide array of software-defined storage architectures.
  • DC1000M:
    • Hot-pluggable U.2 (2.5′′) form factor, allowing seamless integration with latest
    • generation servers and storage arrays currently using PCIe and U.2 backplanes.
    • Enterprise-grade features such as end-to-end path protection, power-loss protection (PLP) and telemetry monitoring for increased data reliability.

Availability

All three drives are backed by a limited five-year warranty and include free technical support. The Kingston DC500R & DC450R are shipping now and the Kingston DC1000M is expected to ship in June 2020.
