Today during KubeCon, KIOXIA announced that its popular storage software, KumoScale, has added new features to support containers and applications managed by the Kubernetes framework. The features will bring NVMe-oF performance to Kubernetes, for quite the performance bump. KIOXIA will be demonstrating the new features of KumoScale at the virtual KubeCon + CloudNativeCon North America 2020 from November 17-20.

The features will bring NVMe-oF performance to Kubernetes, for quite the performance bump. KIOXIA will be demonstrating the new features of KumoScale at the virtual KubeCon + CloudNativeCon North America 2020 from November 17-20.
KumoScale is a software that aimed to maximize the use of NVMe flash drives, and the performance benefits of directed-attached NVMe, over the data center network. It was said to do this by managing storage functionality, enabling the creation of networked storage nodes that can be immediately deployed at scale – delivering improved utilization of powerful NVMe SSDs by allowing them to be shared. Last year at KubeCon, the software began to tighten its integration with Kubernetes through the CSI driver. Now, the software is adding features to further support Kubernetes.
Now KumoScale software is said to serve as a container host, providing managed NVMe volumes to storage applications such as distributed file systems and object stores, running locally on KumoScale storage nodes. But, of course, the NVMe-oF performance, and Kubernetes taking full advantage of it, is one of the biggest benefits.
