KIOXIA KumoScale Further Integrates With Kubernetes

At KubeCon 2019 in San Diego, California, KIOXIA America, Inc. announced that its KumoScale storage software with NVM Express over Fabrics (NVMe-oF) now has a robust Container Storage Interface (CSI) driver that is tightly integrated with the Kubernetes container orchestration framework. KIOXIA will be demonstrating this new CSI driver in KumoScale along with other features at booth #S13 at KubeCon from November 19-21 at the San Diego Convention Center.


At KubeCon 2019 in San Diego, California, KIOXIA America, Inc. announced that its KumoScale storage software with NVM Express over Fabrics (NVMe-oF) now has a robust Container Storage Interface (CSI) driver that is tightly integrated with the Kubernetes container orchestration framework. KIOXIA will be demonstrating this new CSI driver in KumoScale along with other features at booth #S13 at KubeCon from November 19-21 at the San Diego Convention Center.

When announced last year, KumoScale was a software that aimed to maximize the use of NVMe flash drives, and the performance benefits of directed-attached NVMe, over the data center network. It was said to do this by managing storage functionality, enabling the creation of networked storage nodes that can be immediately deployed at scale – delivering improved utilization of powerful NVMe SSDs by allowing them to be shared. KumoScale could leverage dynamic orchestration for more efficient compute nodes. At the time it was able to enable high-performance storage for container orchestration frameworks, such as Kubernetes.

Today KumoSclae further integrates with Kubernetes through the CSI driver. The CSI is stated to provide a uniform way for storage providers to make block storage accessible to cloud orchestration frameworks. Kubernetes supports CSI. The new driver will provide a standardized way to connect control planes to storage while also giving users enough flexibility around requirements applications can place on storage resources. KIOXIA also states that KumoScale can extend the Kubernetes concept of “Storage Classes” and “Storage Class Specifications” to provide a convenient way for users to individually specify a rich set of requirements for each storage volume. This gives users a way to filer performance data and see it in a way that matters specifically to them.
