LaCie Rugged USB 3.0 Thunderbolt Series Announced

LaCie has announced that its Rugged hard drive is the first portable storage solution to feature both Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 technology on a high-performance SSD making it the fastest bus-powered solution on the market, delivering speeds of up to 380MB/s. The 1TB hard-disk version boasts speeds up to 110MB/s, which is a 35 percent improvement over FireWire 800.

The 1TB hard-disk version boasts speeds up to 110MB/s, which is a 35 percent improvement over FireWire 800.

With the unique combination of USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt interfaces, the LaCie Rugged will work on any PC or Mac and users can connect to any standard computer due to USB 3.0’s backward compatibility. The LaCie Rugged is also fully bus-powered with USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt cables, which are included in the package.

The LaCie Rugged is MIL-compliant for physical data-protection from accidental drops up to 1.2 meters (4 feet) and has the ability to resist intense vibration and shock because of its SSD technology. It also includes AES 256-bit encryption software to protect files from curious co-workers or from theft.

Pricing and Availability
The Rugged USB 3.0 Thunderbolt Series is available now in a 1TB HDD version for $249.99, a 120GB SSD model for $199.99. A 256GB SSD model will be available soon for $349.99.
