Lenovo ThinkStation P620 Announced

Today, Lenovo announced the release of the first ever workstation powered by AMD’s brand-new Ryzen Threadripper PRO, the Lenovo ThinkStation P620. Similar to its non-PRO cousin, this new Threadripper PRO comes with up to 64 cores (and 128 threads), 128 lanes of PCIe Gen 4, and 8-channel memory support in a single socket. Prior to today, the only single-socket options for professional workstation towers topped out at 18 cores, with dual socket systems topping out at 56 cores, according to Lenovo.

This new PRO moniker combines the super high core-count of AMD’s top end HEDT processors with the security of a professional workstation CPU. These include features such as AMD Secure Processor, which validates code before it is executed to help ensure data and application integrity, as well as AMD Memory Guard which enables full memory encryption to help protect sensitive data against advanced physical attacks should a PC be lost or stolen.

Bottlenecks be damned in this machine, as there is a myriad of configurations to satisfy any workload’s demand. As previously mentioned, you can get up to a 64c/128t AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO which can be paired with up to 512GB of RAM. If your workload is more GPU-bound, Lenovo has you covered there as well with up to two NVIDIA Quadro RTX 8000s. Getting all that data to a powerful CPU/GPU combination is just as important as how fast you can process it, and Lenovo has that covered as well with 10GbE Ethernet standard and a plethora of USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports on the front and rear of the machine. Storage is no slouch, either, with up to 4TB of M.2 PCIe storage in a RAID0 configuration (2x 2TB) or up to 16TB of spinning disk in RAID 0/1/5/10. If all of this is still not enough for your needs, you have four PCIe 4.0 x16 slots and two PCIe 4.0 x8 slots to fill with whatever your heart desires.

If you’ve been waiting to harness the power of Threadripper for your enterprise environment with OEM support, you won’t have to wait long. The Lenovo ThinkStation P620 will be available this September 2020, with pricing to start at $4,599.
