Micron P320h PCI-Express Enterprise SSD Caught In the Wild [SNW Spring 2011]

Unreleased products are always fun to see at trade shows, especially when they are just placed out in the open with little more than a model name. At SNW Spring 2011, Micron quietly showed off an upcoming PCI-Express-based SSD named the P320h. Little is known about this card other than its sticker-listed capacity and that it will be the first SSD of its kind from Micron.

Unreleased products are always fun to see at trade shows, especially when they are just placed out in the open with little more than a model name. At SNW Spring 2011, Micron quietly showed off an upcoming PCI-Express-based SSD coined the P320h. Little is known about this card other than its sticker-listed capacity and that it will be the first SSD of its kind from Micron.

The Micron RealSSD P320h as you can see from the picture below is loaded with Micron NAND flash and RAM. Without any official product specifications, we only had the sticker to go from, which listed a capacity of 512GB. Similar cards in the enterprise-storage segment include the LSI SLP-300 which we recently reviewed. No information was given on the controller, although it probably doesn’t veer too far away from what Micron has used on its SSDs already.

Another cool demo at the Micron booth consisted of 8 SLC-based enterprise-class P300’s running in RAID. As you can see from the picture below, speed was not a problem, clocking in at 365,000 IOPs. The RAID card in this setup was said to be the new LSI MegaRAID 9265-8i, which we are currently in the process of reviewing.
