During the IFA 2016 trade show, NETGEAR announced the release of two new Desktop NAS models and three new Rackmount models, all of which are geared towards small to medium-sized businesses in need of high-performing servers. NETGEAR claims that their new 6-bay desktop NAS models (i.e., ReadyNAS 526X and ReadyNAS 626X) and 12-bay rackmount models are the fastest servers on the market in their class thanks to their use of dual 10GbE ports.
All of NETGEAR’s new NAS are accessed through ReadyNAS OS 6, which presents users with an intuitive and comprehensive browser-based interface that manages system settings (e.g., privacy, file sharing, sync). ReadyNAS OS 6 allows users to integrate their servers with third-party cloud solutions (i.e., Amazon Cloud Drive, Dropbox, and Egnyte) for backups and improved disaster recovery.
Although NETGEAR’s new desktop NAS units utilize mid-level components (2.4GHz CPU and 8GB RAM in the ReadyNAS 626X), they are capable of delivering stand-out performance due to their use of 10GbE. NETGEAR’s inclusion of 10GbE ports certainly makes their new line of desktop NAS units a compelling option for growing businesses, since that technology continues to grow in prevalence. The new rackmount models (ReadyNAS ReadyNAS and ReadyNAS), which appeal more to use cases that require even stronger performances, utilize best-in-class processing power and up to 16GB of RAM.
