New Veeam Backup for AWS v2 announced

This week, at VeeamON 2020, Veeam has announced several new highlights in regards to Amazon Web Services (AWS), including the general availability of the new Veeam Backup for AWS v2. Since the first release in 2019, Veeam Backup for AWS has been delivering cost-effective and secure cloud-native backup and disaster recovery (DR) of Amazon EC2 instances. The newest version 2, keeps fulfilling customer’s demand to provide availability and accessibility to applications and data on AWS in the event of a disaster.

Veeam Backup for AWS delivers everything organizations need to natively protect Amazon EC2 instances automatically, including fast and flexible recovery options and built-in cost optimization to lower your bill. Veeam Backup for AWS is capable of being implemented as a standalone AWS backup and disaster recovery solution for AWS-to-AWS backup. It can also be integrated with the Veeam Platform, delivering seamless cloud mobility and data portability for backup, recovery, and migration to, from and within any environment, cloud, virtual or physical.

The company reports that Veeam Backup for AWS has seen fast adoption among users looking to protect their workloads on AWS. The latest release of Veeam Backup for AWS includes numerous enhancements and new capabilities that customers and partners most requested, including:

  • AWS disaster recovery to protect against regional outages by replicating and recovering Amazon EBS snapshots
  • Integration with changed block tracking (CBT) API to shrink backup windows and compute storage costs
  • Application consistency and a public RESTful API to automate further and integrate into your workflow.
  • Application consistent snapshots and backups of running Amazon EC2 instances without shutting down or disconnecting attached Amazon EBS volumes.
