Pure Storage today announced FlashStack CI, a new line of all-flash converged infrastructure solutions that is launching with architectures to pair the company’s FlashArray 400 Series arrays with Cisco UCS Blade Servers, Cisco Nexus switches, and VMware vSphere 5 or VMware Horizon 6. The inaugural FlashStack CI architectures are intended for use in high-performance turnkey stacks for virtual server and virtual desktop deployments at scale.

The FlashStack CI for VMware Horizon architecture can scale from an entry configuration with one Cisco UCS chassis and one FlashArray 405 that supports 800 desktops up to a configuration for 3000 virtual desktops in one rack. The VMware Horizon architecture is designed to provide 25 IOPS per user and sub-millisecond response times at any scale. According to Pure Storage, this VDI solution can achieve 10:1 data reduction via its Linked Clones algorithm.

To support the FlashStack CI vSphere architecture, Pure Storage provides plug-ins for all FlashStack CI components in addition to the FlashArray’s GUI, CLI, and RESTful API. According to the company, the vSphere solution scales from an entry-level configuration that occupies half of one rack up to a full rack that supports up to 1024 VMs at 40 IOPS each, with sustained workloads of 66% reads and 33% writes and block sizes averaging 27K. Both FlashStack architectures can be scaled across multiple modular racks.

Availability

FlashStack CI solutions are delivered and supported exclusively through FlashStack Authorized Support Partners which are certified to sell and support Cisco, VMware, and Pure Storage technologies. The VMware Horizon-based FlashStack CI virtual desktop and the VMware vSphere-based virtual server solutions include 24/7/365 single-call support with two service levels. FlashArray controller upgrades are included with every 3-year support renewal.

Pure Storage FlashStack CI solutions are now available in the United States, the UK, and Australia. Global availability is planned for 2015 along with the addition of new reference architectures, configurations, and FlashStack CI Authorized Support Partners.
