The current version of the QNAP NAS firmware allows the units to be added to a LDAP server and well as perform data protection tasks such as security scanning and file quarantining. Both models feature redundant power supplies and two slots for storage and network expansion. Each can be used simultaneously as an IP-SAN and NAS device.

The difference between models is largely in the CPU, memory and connectivity options in each. The TS-EC1279U-RP is a 2RU rackmount enclosure powered by a 3.1 GHz quad-core Xeon processor. It has 4GB of DDR3 ECC RAM and is expandable to 8GB. There are four 1Gb Ethernet on this model. The TS-1279U-RP is built around a dual-core Intel i3 processor and is also a 2RU rackmount unit. It ships with 2GB DDR3 ECC RAM and is expandable to 4GB and features two 1Gb Ethernet ports.

Both models are shipping now. Prices were not announced.
