Riverbed Technology has announced a free version of Riverbed SteelStore virtual edition, Riverbed’s cloud-integrated storage solution. Not only is Riverbed offering their SteelStore solution for free, they have partnered up with Amazon to also offer 6 months of Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) at up to 8TB per month capacity, or 48TB total to select customers who sign up between September 9 and October 9 2014.

Riverbed SteelStore integrates with businesses’ existing backup software, allowing customers to extend their backup, archive, and disaster recovery without the need to add additional storage hardware. SteelStore compresses, deduplicates, and encrypts the data, intelligently caches up to 2TB of recent backups locally while moving older version to Amazon Web Services (AWS). AWS stores up to 8TB per month that can be quickly accessed and retrieved with SteelStore. SteelStore enables customers to securely store data in the cloud at up to 90% lower cost than traditional storage methods and supports 95% of all cloud providers.

Amazon S3 is a cloud-based file storage service that offers robust, secure, enterprise cloud services at a low cost. Riverbed's new offering makes it easier for customers to get started with Amazon S3 for their storage, backup, archiving, and disaster recovery needs.

As data grows and cost of backing it up with traditional methods go up, more customers will be looking for a way to lower costs such as enterprise cloud providers like AWS. Further, customers will turn to cloud-integrated storage solutions, such as Riverbed SteelStore, to enable them to backup and archive their data and provide disaster recovery. The combination will allow them to take full advantage of the economics of cloud storage, while dramatically improving business continuity and restore rates.

Availability

Riverbed SteelStore is available now; select customers can get SteelStore along with 6 months of Amazon S3 for free, a total of 48TB.
