Samsung PM853T Enterprise SSD Released

Samsung announced that it has begun mass production of the PM853T, the industry’s first high-performance, three-bit-NAND-based (TLC) SSD for servers and data centers. Samsung's PM853T is quoted to deliver a 30 percent increase in manufacturing efficiency compared to SSDs that use 2-bit NAND flash components. The PM853T allows data centers to better manage workloads related to social networking, web browsing, and email, and also improves operation efficiency. Installations of the 3-bit MLC NAND SSDs are expected to begin later this quarter.

The PM853T SSD is available in capacities of 240GB, 480GB and 960GB and provides high levels of random IOPS performance and quality of service, both of which are essential for data center and cloud server applications. As a result, Samsung expects the adoption of 3-bit SSDs in data centers to replace the 2-bit SSD market at a rapid pace. The PM853T will also allow IT managers to optimize their SSD upgrades at investment levels similar to those of consumer SSDs. 
 
Samsung’s 10nm-class 3-bit NAND flash components, as well as advanced controller technology, enable the new drive to boast impressive sequential read and write speeds of 530MB/s and 420MB/s respectively, with random read data IOPS at 90,000 and sustained random writes at 14,000 IOPS.
 
Samsung states that the global SSD market is expected to grow by roughly 30 percent in the US–from $9.4 billion in 2013 to $12.4 billion in 2014. The report from IHS iSuppli also indicates that this trend will continue, reaching up to U.S. $20 billion by 2017.
