Today Seagate Technology announced that it has launched the thinnest 2TB portable hard drive on the market, the Seagate Backup Plus Ultra Slim. Seagate has built the new drive off of its Backup Plus Slim Drive. The new Ultra Slim will deliver the same high capacity of 2TB at an even thinner design. The Ultra Slim also comes with 200GB of Microsoft OneDrive cloud storage and Lyve software compatibility just like the Seagate 4TB Backup Plus.

The new Backup Plus Ultra Slim utilizes Seagate’s latest 2.5” HDD technology in order to get its 9.6mm thickness, which, according to Seagate, is more than 50% thinner than other 2TB drives on the market. Seagate was able to achieve such a slim profile, in part, by having 1TB per platter. The capacity the Ultra Slim offers can store up to 500,000 songs, 320,000 photos or 240 hours of high definition video.

The Ultra Slim also comes with Seagate’s Dashboard software. We’ve review this software before finding it easy to use. The software is good for enabling users the ability to schedule backups. The Ultra Slim comes with 200GB of OneDrive storage for two years letting users sync up over mobile devices and their PCs. It also comes with Lyve software for photo and video backups.

Availability

The new Seagate Backup Plus Ultra Slim comes in either golden or platinum metal finish and is expected to be available this quarter.
