StarWind now has a new storage gateway for Calamu as part of its Virtual Tape Library (VTL) offering for organizations that want an extra layer of security on backup data. This solution is designed to take a step past immutability, adding protection from data theft and exfiltration.

The combined solution offers a fully automated, scalable, and immutable backup environment that goes beyond traditional data protection methods. Calamu cyberstorage intelligence prevents tampering and sequesters suspicious activity, effectively eliminating the risk of data theft in the cloud.

But the benefits of StarWind Storage Gateway for Calamu go beyond just security. The solution is also extremely cost-effective and flexible, making it easy to scale while still adhering to regulatory data retention and archival requirements. And with intuitive UIs, managing the system is a simple task.

Market Impact

We’ve worked with StarWind many times over the years, most recently looking at their NVMe-oF Initiator for Windows. While that solution is a bit on the edge, their bread and butter are HCI clusters that have an intuitive GUI while also being cost-effective. It is interesting, however, to see StarWind continuing to collaborate to deliver deeper solutions throughout its stack.

A perpetual call from the likes of Veeam and others is that bad actors are going directly for backups as part of their most vicious attacks. StarWind is clearly listening, adding another defensive layer to the toolbox with Calamu. This is especially important for the SMBs that StarWind typically serves, as they tend to be less sophisticated in their data protection schemes, and as such, easy targets.
