StorCentric Violin QV1020 Announced

StorCentric announced the latest in the Violin QV-Series, the Violin QV1020. The QV1020 is an all NVMe storage array that is said to be simple, cost-effective, and provide high performance. The QV1020 adds to the Violin QV-Series that already had the QV2020 and now they can reach more businesses of various sizes. Though there is a Q in the name, the company states that this is not QLC-based technology.

StorCentric announced the latest in the Violin QV-Series, the Violin QV1020. The QV1020 is an all NVMe storage array that is said to be simple, cost-effective, and provide high performance. The QV1020 adds to the Violin QV-Series that already had the QV2020 and now they can reach more businesses of various sizes. Though there is a Q in the name, the company states that this is not QLC-based technology.

Violin started off fairly strong and then had a bit of a rocky finish. They were one of the first to provide all-flash arrays back in the day. Violin came back and then was swallowed by StorCentric, which is on a quest to gobble up several storage companies of various sizes. Under StorCentric, Violin dumped some of the unique aspects of their arrays that were also holding them up. They now use normal hot-swappable drives making them a bit easier to maintain and use.

The QV-Series uses an Active/Active controller to both increase availability and performance. As stated, the array uses 24 hot-swappable drives instead of Violin Intelligent Memory Modules (VIMMs). It appears that management has gone from Concerto to MAESTRO, not to be confused with VMware’s Project Maestro. The array also offers data reduction by volume for better performance.

Violin QV1020 benefits include:

  • Fast Application Response – The QV-Series all-flash NVMe storage platform has been architected to deliver low latency rates and higher performance so you can get the fastest response times even during peak processing. The difference is the Flash Fabric Architecture (FFA) that gives the QV-Series high bandwidth and IOPs at consistent low latencies.
  • High Availability – The QV-Series utilizes true active/active controllers for increased performance and delivers superior application availability and resiliency with 99.9999% uptime.
  • Data Protection – Snapshots enable the complete recovery of Oracle or SQL Server databases to any point in time. Synchronous replication enables remote data protection with zero Recovery Point Objective (RPO). The QV-Series ensures your data is protected at rest using AES-256 self-encrypting drives (SEDs). A passphrase can be set for an additional layer of security.
  • Data Deduplication – The QV-Series provides performance-optimized data reduction that is selectable by volume, driving down the total cost of ownership.
  • Streamlined Management – The QV-Series has a simplified web-based management user interface that is customizable, manages multiple systems, and delivers the in-depth performance metrics and predictive analytics needed to optimize business needs.
  • Enhanced Matrixed Raid Data Allocation – Writes to the NVMe SSDs are balanced across all drives for better performance. Global parity and spare allocation mitigate the need for urgent drive replacement.
