Synology has released the DS415+, a faster and more secure network attached storage successor to the DS412+.  The DS415+ is powered by DiskStation Manager and is designed for small and medium-sized business users who require high performance throughput and safety for data sharing and backup.

The DS415+ NAS is equipped with a Quad Core CPU, AES-NI hardware encryption engine, a floating-point unit, and 2GB of DDR3 RAM. The four drive bays have the ability to accommodate a large amount of storage capacity, while the USB 3.0, USB 2.0, and eSATA ports give users the ability connect and access a wide range of different external storage devices. In addition, its dual LAN ports support failover and link aggregation help to improve resiliency and potential throughput.

Performance-wise, the DS415+ is quoted to boast an average 228.04 MB/s read and 233.51 MB/s write in RAID 5 configuration using Windows. This is a vast improvement on its predecessor, the DS412+, which delivered an average 158.33 MB/s writing speed under the same conditions.

The DS415+ supports Synology High Availability (SHA), allowing it to leverage an active and a passive server into one cluster, mirroring written data between the two units. If the main server malfunctions, the passive server immediately takes over all running services and data. Additionally, Synology Hybrid RAID gives users the ability to optimize usage, all the while keeping storage safe with data redundancy. Complete backup solutions, such as LUN Snapshot, LUN clone and Backup & Replication, minimize the impact of disasters.

Additional upgrades:

  • Memory: DS415+ increases to 2GB RAM DDR3 from 1GB RAM DDR3 in the DS412+
  • Increased File Sharing Capabilities never compromised, maintaining Max User Account: 2048, Max Group: 256, Max Shared Folder: 512, Max Concurrent CIFS/AFP/FTP Max Shared Folder Sync: 8
  • 60% increased camera connection capability; install 40 (with two free licenses to install two included)

Availability

The DS415+ is now available.
