OCZ Everest Platform with TLC NAND Announced

by Brian Beeler

As promsied, OCZ is showing off a TLC-based consumer SSD based on the Everest platform. TLC (triple-level cell) NAND holds a good deal of promise in the consumer SSD space, largely because when in volume production the cost of the NAND will be substantially less than current MLC offerings, perhaps by as much as 30% less. The OCZ Everest with TLC is the first SSD announced that is using TLC NAND.

The Everest platform with TLC doesn’t give up on performance either, it’s still able to drive 500 MB/s read speeds and 30K IOPS. A release date hasn’t been made available yet.
