Toshiba Intros 32nm SSDs

Toshiba has announced an expanded line of solid state drives (SSDs) based on 32nm Multi-Level Cell (MLC) technology. Toshiba’s 128GB Half-Slim/mSATA SG Series SSD is an industry first and designed for netbook/mini PCs. The company also introduced its high performance HG3 series SSDs with higher read/write speeds for use in enthusiast consumer PCs.

CES 2010 – Toshiba has announced an expanded line of solid
state drives (SSDs) based on 32nm Multi-Level Cell (MLC) technology. Toshiba’s
128GB Half-Slim/mSATA SG Series SSD is an industry first and designed for
netbook/mini PCs. The company also introduced its high performance HG3 series
SSDs with higher read/write speeds for use in enthusiast consumer PCs.

The 128GB Half-Slim/mSATA modules are one-seventh the volume
and one-eighth the weight of traditional 2.5-inch SSDs. They have maximum
sequential read and write speeds of 180/70 MB/s,
respectively.

The HG3 High Performance SSDs are designed for high-end
notebook computers. It has maximum sequential read/write speeds of 250/180
MB/s, respectively. The drives are offered in 64/128/256/512GB capacities in a
standard 2.5-inch, 9.5mm height form factor. The 128/256GB versions are also
offered in a special 7mm height. Additionally, Toshiba offers 1.8-inch drives
in 64/128/256GB capacities. All the drives support AES data encryption and the
TRIM command in Windows 7, which helps maintain drive space and performance
across its lifespan.
