Today the Dell EMC Enterprise Content Division (ECD) made a few announcements today. ECD announced another new version of InfoArchive (GA of 4.1 was announced last month), version 4.2. ECD announced a new version of its enterprise content management repository, Documentum 7.3. And Dell EMC ECD announced a new next-generation content management platform, the Dell EMC LEAP platform.
Building off of last month’s announcement of new features around InfoArchive and version 4.1, Dell EMC is already announcing a new version. Version 4.2 supports large-scale application retirement, optimization of production environments and facilitates application data integration and reuse. It also gives users better search and export for data managed by the InfoArchive platform. The new version of InfoArchive focuses on three aspects: Flexibility & Accessibility, Compliance, and Analytics. 4.2 is more flexible and accessible as it now works with S3 and enables a storage API interface. The newly improved search is one aspect of compliance; 4.2 also use rules-based retention for records giving companies more control over them. The search and export aspects of 4.2 aid in analytics, enabling customers to find and export the data they need for a given task.
Documentum 7.3 is all about reducing TCO as well as the time associated with upgrades. In order to hit these goals, Documentum 7.3 will deliver and deploy new applications easier and will enable a cloud-first strategy. Documentum 7.3 is focused on five key aspects to help reduce TCO: Open source & cloud support, continuous deployment & reduced downtime, seamless upgrades, improved system performance & smaller footprint, and extending investment value.
Open source means users can skip the commercial licensing that can be costly, and Dell EMC support cloud IaaS for storage options. According to the company, Documentum 7.3 and compatible components are optionally packaged within portable, lightweight, production-ready reference images compatible with Docker runtime engines at no cost to customers, helping it meet its continuous deployment. Not only will this give Documentum 7.3 a performance bump in upgrades it will also reduce downtime. All 18 products within the Documentum family are certified to work with the latest version meaning the upgrade should be seamless. Using Docker, Dell EMC states that Documentum 7.3 will have a smaller footprint that in turn will result in performance benefits; not only that the shared resources that result from using Docker can also reduce hardware and operating costs. Using a hybrid layer Documentum 7.3 is engineered to work better with the Dell EMC LEAP Platform and apps meaning customers can extend the value of investment by leveraging the capabilities of LEAP.
Back in May of this year, EMC released five LEAP apps. Using the same set of micro-services to build those apps Dell EMC is releasing the LEAP content platform today. The platform will allow user to build their own LEAP apps or extending the existing ones. To build the apps, developer will have access to API documentation and tutorials.
The new LEAP platform includes:
Along with the LEAP Platform, ECD is also announcing two new LEAP apps: LEAP Focus – a mobile app for reviewing content and LEAP Express – designed to support digital approval workflows. ECD is also releasing a beta of the LEAP Concert app, an app that allows the creation of several different types of documents in a collaborative environment.
Availability
The Dell EMC LEAP platform is available now. Dell EMC InfoArchive 4.2 is expected to be generally available by the end of the year. Documentum 7.3 is in beta now and is expected to be generally available by the end of the year.
