Hitachi released two new 3.5-inch models with single-platter 1TB capacities. The 7K1000.D and 5K1000.B are offered in both 250, 320, 500, 750GB and 1TB capacities with fewer moving parts thanks to a new larger capacity platter design.

Both models will be leveraging the new 1TB density platter found in the 4TB drive from Hitachi, although the 7K1000.D will be aimed towards performance users and the 5K1000.B going towards power-friendly solutions. The faster 7K1000.4 supports a faster 7,200RPM spindle speed, while the power-efficient 5K1000.B spins at a slower 5,400RPM. Both models will include the latest SATA 6Gb/s interface connection, giving the faster model a media transfer speed of 227MB/s and the slower model one of 180MB/s.

Alongside the Deskstar models released today, Hitachi is also announcing A/V streaming optimized CinemaStar 7K1000.D and 5K1000.B drives aimed at the DVR and TV markets. These models will use the same 1TB/platter design.
