NetApp Delivers Seamless Data Management Across Public and Private Clouds

by storagereview

One of the challenges in delivering cloud services is to be able to access and manage data that reside in public, private, and hybrid cloud infrastructures. In many situations the service provider has to utilize different methods for the cloud variations and this creates complexity that hinders efficiency and the ability to manage these disparate data structures in a seamless manner. NetApp has announced a solution that bridges across the cloud variants and is based on three strategic concepts; universal data platform, dynamic data portability and customer choice.

A Universal Data Platform that is based on clustered Data OnTap – by leveraging a common fabric for data storage and management, NetApp can provide a flexible, efficient platform that enables non-disruptive operations and scalability. This will be available in NetApp optimized systems (FAS), for third-party hardware (V-series), and within converged infrastructures (FlexPod platform). Working with Cisco to define reference architectures for large scale enterprise providers and multi-tenant environments, NetApp will increase the integration of clustered Data OnTap into the FlexPod converged infrastructure. In addition, more robust quality-of-service capabilities and expanded API integrations with emerging solutions like OpenStack and CloudStack will be offered.

Dynamic Data Portability Across Clouds – will allow the movement of data across all instances of Data OnTap in multiple cloud environments. NetApp will be showcasing an “on-the-fly” hypervisor translation for workload migration at the upcoming Oracle OpenWorld (September 24-27). SnapMirror will also be enhanced to support replication of data across public or private clouds more easily and increase the level of data protection and disaster recovery.

Extensive Choices for Technologies, Applications, and Public Cloud Service Providers – In coming months NetApp will be announcing integrations with key providers in virtualization frameworks, application deployment models, and cloud management solutions including OpenStack and CloudStack. Currently more than 175 cloud service providers deliver more than 300 NetApp based cloud services to the market.
