Today at the OpenStack Summit 2017 in Boston, MA, NetApp introduced the latest version of its Object Storage software, StorageGRID. The latest version is aimed at helping to simplify OpenStack storage deployments as well as supporting Docker container deployment on bare-metal servers. The new version of StorageGRID will be displayed at booth #D3 at the John B. Hynes Memorial Convention Center in Boston.

As we previously stated, NetApp's approach to object storage is with the StorageGRID Webscale software. The software will address a range of use cases, managing data placement according to cost, compliance, availability, and performance requirements, delivering the storage needed with speed, security, and scalability. StorageGRID Webscale runs on a virtualized server infrastructure with either NetApp E-series data storage systems or with third-party storage arrays. And is purpose-built for large archives, media repositories, and web data stores.

New features include:

  • More software deployment options, including Docker Container support and the ability to install on bare-metal servers
  • Simpler OpenStack storage deployments with Keystone integration, Swift ACL support and heat-less deployment
  • Better multitenant control with the ability to monitor and control user capacity quotas
  • Certification with Veritas Enterprise Vault to centralize retention management across email, files, social media, and more
